Foot care: 5 steps to the perfect feel-good routine

Our feet are in daily use. With every step we take, our entire weight rests on them. But although they do so much, they often receive little attention. A targeted foot care routine can not only improve your well-being, but also help to keep your skin and nails healthy in the long term. If you take the right care steps at an early stage, you can avoid problems such as cracks or athlete’s foot, or specifically support the regeneration of affected “problem areas”.

1. thorough cleansing – the basis for healthy feet

The first step in any foot care routine begins with thorough cleansing. Sweat, dust and dead skin cells can accumulate over the course of the day and impair the skin’s natural function. A soothing foot bath helps to remove residues from the skin and prepares it optimally for further care.

Lukewarm water is usually sufficient, as water that is too hot can unnecessarily stress the skin. A mild, pH-neutral washing lotion should be used to gently cleanse the feet without drying out the skin. The foot bath should not last longer than 20 minutes, otherwise the skin will become very soft and more susceptible to injury and infection. Additives based on natural active ingredients, such as sea salt or algae extracts, can also nourish and soothe the skin.

2. gently remove dead skin cells

After the bath, the skin is particularly soft. This is the ideal time to remove excess calluses. Pumice stones or special callus files are suitable for this. It is important not to remove too much, as a certain layer of callus serves as a protective barrier, especially in areas subject to heavy wear such as the heel.

The use of sharp blades should be avoided. They can injure the skin and cause irritation. If you regularly care for your feet, you only need gentle methods to remove dead skin cells anyway.

3. targeted care for dry skin

After cleansing and callus removal, the skin is ready to receive nourishing active ingredients. Moisturizing products are ideal for this. Ideally, like Spirularin® HF Gel, they contain ingredients that promote the natural regeneration of the skin and at the same time protect it from drying out.

Here too, products with algae extracts such as the patented micro-layer active ingredient Spiralin® from ocean pharma have proven their worth. They support the skin barrier, have a soothing effect and help to make the skin feel supple. Regular use can help to prevent dry patches in the long term.

4. shorten and care for nails correctly

Toenails also deserve attention. They should be trimmed regularly with nail scissors or nail clippers. A straight cut is ideal, where the nails are not too short and the corners are not too round. This prevents the nails from becoming ingrown or inflamed. It is also advisable to use a nourishing solution to strengthen the nail structure and prevent discoloration or brittleness.

5. the right shoes and socks

Last but not least, the right footwear also plays a key role. Shoes that are too tight or poorly ventilated can cause pressure points and upset the natural climate in the shoe. Look for comfortable, breathable materials for both shoes and socks.

Cotton socks or functional materials that wick moisture to the outside are particularly recommended. Socks should be changed daily and shoes should be aired out well to promote a comfortable foot climate.

Conclusion: prevention starts with daily care

Healthy feet are no coincidence, but the result of conscious care and attention. Many typical foot problems can be avoided with a simple but consistent routine. The combination of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing, nail care and choosing the right footwear forms a solid foundation. Care products with natural active ingredients such as Spiralin® support this process in a gentle way and offer an alternative to conventional solutions.
